What is silent sisters?

Silent Sisters is a term used in the game of thrones novels by author George R. R. Martin. They are a religious order of women in Westeros who have taken a vow of silence and devote their lives to prayer and contemplation of the Seven Gods. The Silent Sisters assist in preparing the dead for burial and are responsible for preserving the bodies of the dead, especially those of nobles and royalty, by wrapping them in linen and sealing them in coffins with wax. They are known for their distinctive white hooded robes and are considered to be a solemn and respected institution throughout the Seven Kingdoms.
